Safari bikini for cj5?

I know they don't make a safari bikini top for a cj5, so could I order one for a cj7 or yj and that work???
I can make a bar to support it, but I need to know if the length would be ok! I want shade for my rear passengers but don't want to buy a complete top for it!

So who makes the Safari? I did a quick search on BesTop's site and didn't see it. I wanted a BesTop mesh Bikini but they don't make it for a 56 CJ5 so I went to Home Depot and bought the mesh and made my own. When I asked them how much different the one that they made was from what would fit my Jeep.... it was like "It ain't gonna work". I have a complete top from BesTop so I used it to copy the radius of the welt that slips into the channel on the top of the windshield and the rest of the measurements I took off of another run of the mill Bikini top.
Ya, if you have better things to do, it's not worth it. Just depends on how bad you want it. I would have bought a mesh Bikini in a second if I could have found one but I couldn't.

You could get a YJ safari top but it will be too long. It was designed to fit the family bars and longer tub.

It will need taking in and modding so you may be wasting your money unless you are very good at these things.

BagusJeep lives in Bali with far too many 4x4s:

How much longer would a regular yj bikini top be compared to my cj5 bikini top? I wonder if that would be enough extra length?

I know you said you don't want to buy a full top, but if you get a Bestop Supertop, the back & sides are removable. Voila! Instant safari top.

I had a bikini top when I had my cj7, kept it when I sold the 7 and now fits just fine on my cj5. You just need to pull the adjustable straps all the way to make it tight

FYI.... the op is talking about a safari top not a bikini top. The bikini top only covers the front passengers, the safari extends back and covers the rear passengers too. I am also interested in finding a source.

They fit just like one on a 7. The difference is the length of the strap to the footman loop.

But the difference in length between the 5 and 7 is the distance in the door opening, so wouldn't the actual bikini part be longer also? Just my thoughts!

You are correct, my 1980 CJ 5 is 35" from the top of the windshield to the top of the roll bar. My 7 is 38".
I Apologize, I should have measured before posting.
I use a 7 bikini on my 5.

Heres the answer to all your problems. Its a cut down scrap cj7 hard top. Its mounted using exhaust clampswith a bolt and spacer welded to the bridge. I love it and with doors on the interior remains dry in the rain. Wind and rain will get the back wet though.

I was thinking something like this could be modified, maybe lengthen the support bar?
