Reduction gear starter

BagusJeep,

Got any of these?

Pros/ Cons?

I just ordered one for Willy, Sometimes Willy can be stubborn if it's been awhile since he was cranked.

Will this type starter hold up with extended cranking?

My last attempt with the OEM starter had it smoking (even when primed)

Give me the rundown on this new starter!

https://www.walmart.com/ip/NEW-GEAR-...e-f9de27af9e3c

I have good luck with warranties, I got the 3 year plan too!

Looks very sexy!!!!! European made by the looks of it, they are just a label but not being Chicomm is always best.

My Willys runs on a simple bendix type starter with integral solenoid, with good leads to earth and battery it spins over fine and it starts, if not instantly then quite quickly. It is related to a lawnmower after all.

I have a similar reduction starter on a 258 in Puthijeep, which came from a Mitsubishi Pajero and was cut down / welded up to fit. Maker was probably Denso so good quality. They spin real fast, the only issue being the gear drive itself which has to be kept greased. I have never measured it but I suspect it has a lower current draw than the usual one. The brushes froze on it after many years but a simple beast to repair.

A good choice.

I''m running the Powermaster Mini Torque starter from Summit on my 360, mostly because it provided more room for my exhaust crossover.

It's performed well and seems to have more cranking power than the OEM style.

Every once in a while I learn something from JEEPFELLER. It probably would be more if I could understand more if I wasn't so dense!

Today I learned you could buy a starter from Walmart and not just an ordinary starter but a reduction gear starter. Last week I learned that if you go to Walmart to buy a 3157 turn signal/stop light bulb you find them in a locked cabinet with a "Push Button for Assistance" and no one who works there knows where the light flashes when you push the button. The second thing I learned was that after waiting for 30 minutes while pushing the button was that they were out of 3157 bulbs.

That's an expensive starter. You may have to cut back on your antifreeze consumption to afford it. Let me know when it arrives.

When she left you the honey do list and said to clean up the garage for 30 minutes she was actually telling you the first step in putting on the starter. When you finish yours you can come do my garage. Dadgum it it is easier to just toss it in than to put it in its place. Then you can't get to that place.

Dug him out of the hoard.

A little EZer to get to the stuff needed to get him going.

HE's ALIVE!!!

Checked fluids--Good

Recharged battery

Primed with 2 separate squirts of starter fluid

Choke fully out

Busted off for 5 seconds with 1st squirt

Busted off full time with 2nd squirt

I minute later----choke fully off

STARTER so smooth!!!! And even, consistent

No "wing ding pop whirl etc." as the original did since 1991 (and other folks Willys with a 134)

I recommend this puppy over a OEM starter--wish I had got one in the beginning.
