Random Clicking when accel/decel and slight vibration

I have an '86 CJ7 with T5. A couple of nights ago, I started to notice a random clicking sound underneath. I say random because it does not to seem to be in rhythm with wheel or engine speed. It only seems to happen when the drivetrain is under load when acceleration or decelerating. Also, a very slight vibration that gets bigger with speed started at the same time. I have been driving it around my neighborhood while hanging out the drivers door to try to pinpoint it and it sounds to be coming from directly under me, like where the transfer case sits. I have crawled around and checked all ujoints, drive shafts, etc and it is all tight as a drum.

This weekend, with the help of my wife, I plan to put the rear wheels up on jack stands and run it so I can try to duplicate it while being able to peer underneath. In the meantime, any ideas?

Thanks - Farrell

Often these sounds are made by the exhaust pipe hitting something underneath. Look for shiny spots on the tail pipe.

I once had my center cap on one of my back rims do this as well. Took me awhile to hunt it down...it was moving slightly and making a small tick/clunk sound.

Not that this addresses the vibration. Have you tried greasing the ujoints and seeing if the sound changes? Do you have a lift? Is it all stock? Helpful if you fill out your profile too so folks know what your running.
