Pics of soft top (tailgate area)

Installed the new soft top on my jeep, and notice that the tailgate does not seal at all. Is there supposed to be some sort of bar or something. It says that you are supposed to be able to open the tailgate without opening the softop glass, but surely it should seal better than it does.

Can you guys take some pictures of how yours seals? On both sides of the tailgate and across it.

Pictures would really help us understand what the problem is.

Bestop SuperTop. Part# 55799-15

https://www.quadratec.com/p/bestop/s...yABEgJ4bPD_BwE

I will try to get a pic. I just can't find any pictures online about how the back window is supposed to attach to the tailgate. The details for the top say that the tailgate can be lowered without the window being unzipped, which is true, but there is a large gap between the window and the tailgate. Water just runs right off the top and into the tub.

If it's not or wasn't, call bestop direct. They have one of the best customer service departments I've ever dealt with, and can get you the parts you need (likely for free if you bought the top)

Give em a call, Bestop in my experience has pretty good customer service and will very quickly get missing parts out to you.

I think that is just for the CJ 7. It might not even be a CJ, look how the door opens in that picture.

Mine tucks very well into the tailgate retainer that is screwed to the rear lip.

If you have your bows tight, it makes a good seal.

The diagram is YJ specific but the CJ7 top uses a similar bar across the bottom of the rear window that seals against the outer edge of the tailgate.

I'm not sure exactly what you are talking about without a picture, but if I understand correctly...yes there should be a metal "rod" that is about 6-8 inches longer than your back window that holds everything tight over the tailgate. A long plastic tube, runs through that "rod" holding it onto the window.

I wish I could get you a picture but my CJ is in the body shop. My experience with Best Top is somewhat mixed but I would assume that they will have that part in house and will get it to you for free or at not much cost.

This is the best I could find. Looks like it says part #29. Second from last on the right.
