Painting the hard top

Does Jeep specify a special paint for the factory hard top?

For what it's worth, I paint my entire CJ2A fiberglass body with acrylic enamel.

The only prep I do is to wipe it down with "Prep Solve" and let it dry.

I've painted him twice since 1991, the second time was to change the olive drab from '50s shade to the WWII shade.

He got his 1st new soft top in 1999, Now days its weak and it would begin to rip if I pulled on it hard. In desperation, (lack of funds) I painted it with Latex paint, I saturated it! Now it's stronger, almost as if it's rubberized, the water drips have stopped!

I am not aware of a paint specifically for the hardtop. I chose to use RaptorLiner when I painted the YJ top that I converted to a CJ top. It turned out pretty well.

It was pretty rough in a couple spots, so I got to learn some fiberglass repair too.

After the fiberglass repair, I sanded it all smooth and primed with Eastwood epoxy primer.

Then I shot it with Raptor using the custom coat spray gun (same as the deluxe Raptor gun, except it cost $20 instead of $80). Two coats later and I had this.

It has been outside for the last few months and still looks like new, so I am happy with it.
