Original Levis Jeeps??

Were they all Renegades? Or could you order the Levis in all models?

Unfortunately, that is correct. the vin doesn't say anything about the sub-model. As for the Levis thing, I don't really have an answer, all I know is my dad had a Levis that was also a Renegade. After it was stolen, ran into a ditch and the interior/top cut up, he couldn't get levis seat or top.

I'm pretty sure that Levi's edition didn't have to be a renegade. My '78 is a Levi's and almost completely stock and i'm almost positive it isn't a renegade. From what i can tell, levi's editions basically gave you a denim dash, canvas/denim seats with buttons that say levi's, and I think just came in either blue or tan with matching canvas colored soft top. Other than that a neat little levi's sticker is the only other thing that made it a levi's edition.

1978 CJ7 I6, 2.5" dik cepek spring lift, 0.5" shackle lift, Cooper Discoverer S/T 33's, 1.25" Wheel Spacers.

Whats Next: Wide track swap, winch, new seats, eventually a 4.0 mpi swap from a 90's cherokee or wrangler.

Yes, I started both of these threads. So far what I have learned from Renegade thread, is that all 1978 Renegades ARE Levis interiors, but the Levis interior COULD be ordered as a seperate option on other models.

Here is some follow up info on this subject that I have discovered in my quest for finding the "right stuff."

What I haven't mentioned is that I was a sales manager for an AMC dealership from 1968--1974. Unfortunately the dealership did not take on the Jeep franchise when AMC bought out Kaiser in 1972.

Anyway, the AMC cars also offered the Levis interiors on select models.

What confused me was I was hearing that the Levis material in the Jeeps was actually vinyl. This was a surprise as the material in the cars was the actual denim fabric.

Well, now that I have a scan of an original Jeep full line factory brochure, it appears that the CJs had the vinyl standard in both Blue or tan, BUT, the Cherokees and Pick-ups had the FABRIC available as an option. What is interesting is that the Cherokee and truck offered the fabric in Black or Tan but no Blue.

I am pretty much a stock kind of guy but I may switch my vinyl Blue Levi interior to fabric simply because in AZ. the the vinyl gets so hot and I plan to have the top off of this Jeep a lot.

Is there a way that you could post the brochure that you have. I would be very interested in taking a look at it. Either that, or perhaps you could email it to me. I have been working on restoring my Renegade back to stock, and I am always looking for material. Thanks.
