Doesn't look like a trim code for a '78. What Yuma posted is.
Here's this forum's compilation of interior trim codes/pics:

Itís a 78 and the frame number is there to confirm VIN yet itís a 79 color in Cumberland Green.

The picture posted of the data plate is too small to see the letters and numbers. Can't help you.

1CEP = Black, Low back bucket seats in Cara vinyl. I don't know what the 'P' represents

I guess thatís whatís confusing. The ďPĒ designation is odd and I canít find CE under 78.

Ever considered that not all changes took place exactly on new years day? Maybe your jeep was build in the last weeks of 78 but already had 79 paint and trim options.

Also, wouldn't be the first jeep ever mis-titled, especially if it came off a deer lease or farm, for example, but the VIN looks right.

Momo makes a point, could have simply been a late run, or even dealer request.

I believe your right Hoss. It must be a last week of production run and just got the new codes and colors. They say donít rule anything out when it came to AMC. Thanks to all
