Cj Looking for 83 - 86 wiring diagrams

I figured out my 1980 CJ7 has a wiring harness from a 1983 or later Jeep. See this thread: https://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/w...0-cj7-4438723/

I am looking for wiring diagrams for CJs from 1983 to 1986 to help me figure this out. I checked oljeep.com and his manuals stop at 1981. If anyone can point to these diagrams online or can post them I would appreciate it.

Bob

I have a wiring diagram labelled 1980 to 1983 which is the same as the 1982 TSM on oljeep.

You need the 1984 to 1986? the main difference is the engine mangement/emissions harness, which I guess you do not have?

The easiest way to visualise Jeep wiring is as three main harnessess plus the reverse / 4WD switch sub harness. This breaks down into the engine bay, the instrument panel and the rear. The color coding for the main circuits follows the same scheme in all these years, so you know:

Black - ground
Red - permanently on power
red with tracer - on in run and start - may be fused or unfused
Light blue - starter
Yellow - accessory

etc. etc. You get the idea.

is there any area of the harness you have that you are unsure of?

BagusJeep lives in Bali with far too many 4x4s:
1981 CJ7 258ci - Bagusjeep
1984 CJ7 258ci - Puthijeep
1981 J20 258ci - Gladys
1951 Willys CJ3A/MB/M38 - Little Willy
1995 Cherokee 4.0 - CHEROKEE
1980 Land Rover Series III 109" troop carrier - ROVER

I have the factory 1984 wiring diagram in my possession. It's a 9ft fold out schematic that I copied to PDF file format the best I could.

Thank you, this was helpful. I studied the 1981 diagram on oljeep along with the diagram in the 1979 manual until I figured out the colors. What I am after is the pinouts for the half-round wiper switch connector. My Jeep has the older four wire ribbon off the wiper motor and I need to either adapt it or pull wires from the connector to the older switch. Not sure which way I'm going to go.

The wire diagram keith460 posted was what I was looking for. AMC did a good job when they made this one. It is much better than the earlier diagrams. Jurgen24, thanks fir posting the manual. This is a valuable resource that will help in troubleshooting my harness.

I printed that file out and taped it together. It ended up being 3 long strips. It is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
