Well I got ahead of myself and mounted the tub. Then I realized I should really have cleaned it better! I think because I’m doing a mock-up then remove and paint, I didn’t think it was a big deal. But after mounting the tub, I couldn’t stand the dirt and grease on the tub on the restored frame and drivetrain. So off if came!

While I had it off if scrubbed 95% of the gunk off the bottom. Then I used a wire wheel on a drill and cleaned up all the bare metal. Windshield hinge area, door hinges, tailgate hinges, and the firewall areas where the battery box mounts. Then I spray painted it just to hold off rust till it gets final strip and paint.

The next posts are going to be a ton of pics of the tub, but I want to document the condition. The only rust I can find at all is under the roll bar mounts.

And finally, the tub back on the frame! I’m going to name the CJ “Spot”. Sounds appropriate!

That tub appears to be in pretty good shape. Shouldn't have too much rust repair to do on it.

Today the engine got cleaned up, then the fenders and grille mounted. Hoping to start her back up soon but I needed to get the radiator mounted. Next is installing the tranny cooler.

I do have to remove the drivers fender just to trim my motor mount. With the engine shifted towards drivers side, the mount barely touches the fender.

Initial run with 700R4! Got the tranny cooler installed permanently. The lines are ran but just held into place with zip ties. I still have to put the p-clamps on. But I was able to run the tranny for the first time and do the initial fill up! I’m pretty excited! I doubt I’ll have it running again for a little bit as I plan to tidy up the tranny lines then work on installing the steering column and the master cylinder.

Haven’t done much lately besides installing the windshield with new cowl seal, wipers installed with linkage greased and new pivot covers, and everything tested.

After that I decided to clean up the axle covers and polish the wheels. They were so dull and I figured I’d polish them up to give a boost to the appearance and hopefully also my ambition level. I need to get moving on it more, been slacking off.

The wheels cleaned up nice. Hopefully that is what you needed to get back to work.

Today I got a bit done on the CJ. I permanently mounted all the transmission cooler lines. Took all day lol. I had to make brackets with the correct angles, then avoid where the exhaust will be, then jump from the engine to the frame with the run. Then I mounted along the frame and up next to the radiator. The tranny cooler is mounted completely independent of the radiator allowing one or the other to be removed without taking the other out as well. Also they are mounted so the fenders can be removed independently as well. No p-clamps on the fender or grille!

I’m backtracking a little bit in time as I forgot to post this. But I did the windshield install. I painted the tub and the windshield frame where the hinges would touch. I painted underneath the hinges. Then I mounted everything with stainless steel hardware. Also greased up the windshield wiper linkage and mounted the motor. Added some new wiper gaskets and new windshield wiper blades. Also added a new seal between the windshield and tub. Also mounted the sun visors. Most of this has new stainless steel hardware that came with the kit but there are a few areas that I had to use the old screws. Remember this is all coming back apart for final paint later on down the road.
