I'm baaa-aaack

Been out of the scene and off of the forums for a few years now...life stuff...illness, moving, job changes, etc. Still have my CJ-7 & CJ-8 and just picked up a 'new' CJ-8 a few weeks ago (had to strike a bargain with my wife to sell the other CJ-8, it will be picked up in the Spring). Had to make the 'adult' decision to abandon the CJ-8 hardcore build which is why I bought the new one. It's also an '83 and is bone stock and in amazingly good condition. It's a 4-banger (GM) backed by a T-176 at present and runs & drives, but I'll be doing a frame-off on it over the Winter (in the time that I've been away, both of my parents passed, so now I have the funds available to run full speed ahead instead of in fits & starts, but I'm still bargain hunting...can't shake my cheap/Jeepskateness). This will be a mild resto-mod with a heavy leaning toward stock-ish parts & finishes. Current plan is for an AMC 360 that I have on the shop floor backed by a T-999 auto and the D300, rebuilt axles w/1-piece shafts, factory Trac-Lok & discs in the rear, 33's on factory old school aluminum slots, Old Man Emu springs, etc, etc. In the planning stages right now & locating local shops for the work that I need to farm out & shaking loose some of the CJ cobwebs in my head.

Wow, have not heard your name in years. Welcome back! I lost my original user/password, but followed your build years ago. I believe my original user was cj7jeep.

Thanks, good to be back. Was working a job that went off the rails shortly after I finished the outbuilding and sucked up most of my personal time, then was unemployed for almost a year and had to take a significant pay cut. Was considering buying a new Scrambler after the diesel version comes out, then decided that I didn't want to spend the kind of money that that is likely to cost. Once I'm done with this Scrambler, I'm going to take the CJ-7 back down to the frame and finalize it (vast majority of the parts/mods are already done on it). Should be a flurry of activity starting after Thanksgiving, making space in the outbuilding now.

Welcome back, although I'm pretty new here. I'm sorry to hear about your parents and your job struggles sir.
That is a great looking Scrambler by the way!

Just let me know. I sure would like to find a steering wheel as good as yours.

It's off of a '95 YJ Sport column from my first build back in the late 90's, not sure what year the horn button is from (was with the base model wheel that came in the pile of parts that was with the Scrambler, I liked it better than the '95 button). Helps make a little extra room for my 6' 215# frame with the half cab on.

Permanent plates are in, and I remembered that I had settled on the Fly-N-Hi rear bumper, but didn't really like it, so I picked up an Olympic rear bumper & had the kids in precision machining (I work in IT at a vo-tech school now) re-drill it for me:
