I don't have any repair tips, but I do however have that exact same crack. I didn't know that it was a common thing among CJs.

I'll be interested to see what others have done as well.

jscherb has a good writeup on it. There might be a link to it in the Gaucho step side build thread or do a search for it.

I do not know much, but I do know that it is a very common problem.

It happens with early YJ doors as well. I've seen some guys clean up the crack and simply weld in the missing spot because it's narrow enough.

I had the cracks inside and out on both doors. When I stripped them, I found they had already been welded in all 4 places by somebody else and cracked again. I used jscherb's angle iron technique and they are holding up well so far, although it hasn't been long. The doors are much more sturdy now and I am confident it won't come back.

A buddy had this same issue and drilled the end of the crack before welding. So far so good.

I just had all my sheet metal professionally painted and I had those same exact cracks. I talked with the body man and he said that he ended upreinforcing the crack from the back side with something and welded it. He says it will not crack in that place again.

Mine have the same ones... Hard Doors are only one 4-5 months or so out of the year so I guess I can live with it.

No, its from slamming the doors too hard and flex in the doors from worn out weather seals.

I drilled a hole at the bottom and then drilled a hole about 1/2" on both side and welded a piece behind and welded the crack to the piece also, ground it down and painted still good for 2 years. What I have noticed is when you close the doors the upper flexes, I try not to slam the doors but push them closed. I also have a 87 wrangler that has the wrangler package with the padded upper door panels and they haven't cracked.

Not to change the subject, Ed, I used your idea on the frame nuts repair this week, worked great. Dave
