Gun/Fishing Pole Rack

So, I bought a set of these racks off of ebay without doing a lot of thinking about it. I thought it would be great for carrying a fishing pole or two. I have no idea how these install. Am I correct in assuming they mount on the inside side window on a hard top? Seller said they were from the Special Equipment Jeep catalog if that helps any

You have a picture or link to the racks?

Haven't had a set those since I sold my truck.
Great for hanging your hard hat on also.

How are you planning on mounting them? You will probably have to drill through the top.
Probably special equipment for Jeep Pickup, Not a CJ.

This is how they usually are mounted:

For fishing rods, you have a couple of options. You can go with a hood mounted system (very popular in my neck of the woods) or an inverted style rack mounted either on the roll bar (depending on your configuration) or on the passenger side of the rig with the rods on the outside. Both of these systems allow for you to carry the rod set up complete with the reel. If you don't mind breaking them down, a simple aluminum/plastic rod storage tube will do the trick. If you don't want to buy a tube, you can make a cheap one out of PVC pipe.

I will probably get rid of these since I run with only a softop at the most. Easy enough to make a rack that slides into the reciever hitch i have.

I have them in my retired 3/4 ton 4x4 service trucks and they work great holding a 4' level or a set of plans in the off season, but there isn't room enough for them in my the CJ7. Most rifles 24'' & 26''or shot guns 28-32 barrels are to long to fit in the jeep sideways.

Are you carrying your rods vertically? Seems that without some sort of secondary support the tippets are going to get whipped around at highway speeds.
