Fold and Tumble - CJ vs early YJ - How different are they cushion wise?

I've been on the hunt for a CJ7 back seat so that I can recover with a leather seat cover and I'm sure many of you know, they are impossible to find at any cost friendly price. I found one in like, Ohio, for $40 but shipping would be astronomical if they seller would even do that.

So here I am with my question; How different are the early YJ fold and tumble cushions from the CJ? You can see the many horizontal bars of the seat cover compared to the 3 or 4 on the YJ which has me wondering if the foam padding underneath is all that different.

I'm going to take it to an upholstery shop so it many not even matter, but I wanted to check before I grabbed some random one of the bay.

PS: If anyone has a black italian purse fold and tumble they want to get rid of, please let me know. haha

Attached is my dream seat, BTW

LOL, my mistake, I had 2 and the one that replied was actually out of the Buffalo Minnesota craigslist and the ad is gone. It was $40 for a really nice red CJ7 back seat and I think I could still get it.

I put one from a YJ in the back of my Scrambler for a few years (it didn't have one originally). The upholstery was quite different than a CJ, but the brackets mounted just the same so I would suspect the frame is basically the same.

When I was younger, I thought I was Don Quixote... turns out I'm just another donkey-hootie.

This was kind of my worry. My upholstery guy is good but I don't want him to have to completely reconfigure the foam and padding. Dang.

This is a YJ fold and tumble that I had an upholsterer install OEM material on using the original pattern. It matched perfectly to my OEM front seats.

1987-1990 YJ seats use the same cushions as the late CJ's. It is the same part number for both CJ and early YJ seats assemblies, only the outside material and patterns are different.

Started a thread on a DIY Upholstery that I still have not completed yet due to other important task that need to be done. Can be read here: https://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/d...l#post40556483

Awesome info!!! I'd love to DIY my stuff buy when it comes to fabric and the precision I want for this... it's going to a specialist.

I'll order up an old YJ seat and buy the leather seat cover to make it happen.

Thank you!
