Ever see this rare part?

I was going through a bunch of heater boxes. I had 9 CJ units and 3 YJ units. Basically making good ones from ones with damaged front plastics or rotted out rear metal panels. So it’s easy to compare and notice changes not only through production years but also when they retool for a model change.
I found this odd looking metal tip rolling around in one of the CJ units. Figured it was just non jeep part junk from the PO and went to toss it. Glad I didn’t.

When none of my heat flap doors would fit in this one box, I examined it more closely. It’s from a very late 86 and they started retooling the plastic box to take the YJ flaps and such which go out the front and operate with different levers. But this one has all the correct CJ brackets riveted on. So this is an extension tip to make the CJ door work in this modified box.

Also the fresh air “dog house” box on the far right was also a combo of CJ flaps and brackets in a YJ housing. I’ve seen a few of those.

Here’s some pics. Anyone who has rebuilt a few of these air boxes will know what I mean. Anyone else see super low number stuff like this??

I’ve also seen late 86 tubs with the YJ rear floor water ledge at the back tailgate.

I have a rebuilt a few complete box’s from 82-85 and have never seen that metal part. Interesting.

I did find some needle nose pliers inside one recently. Lol.
