Custom Sport Cage Cost...

I found a guy locally that will custom bend, weld, and install a custom cage anyway I want it for $800. My question is, if I purchased a kit from somewhere like Ten offroad or ORFab, I know the bends will be correct and somewhat cheaper. Should I go with custom or some kit?

Do you think $800 is worth custom?

Depends upon exactly what you're getting and what material is being used. Keep in mind that after you buy a pre-fab kit, you still need to have it shipped, fitted, and welded, so factor that into your comparison.

Sounds like a great deal to me!!!

After-market cage will probably end up costing you a lot more than that by the time you get it completed and installed.

I say go for it. Just make sure to look at some of his other work to be sure you are getting the quality you want.

Note: You should consider paying a little extra and mounting your seats to the cage. Just a thought.

. With the steel prices and cost af a good welders time haveing costom built for that is what I would have done. But I bought a full cage with seat brackets welded to it on e-bay parts a month ago for $60.oo.

The price is good the last cage that i did was around that much it was a full rally cage in a subaru. The good thing about a custom cage is that you can have it biult the way you want.

$800 is a good deal. I would make sure and look at some other cages this guy has done just to see the quality of work. Ask if the $800 includes any gusseting or tying into the frame if you want that.

For 800 bucks you can buy a good welder then get a cage kit and do it yourself. Yes it will cost you more foir the cage kit, but when you make your rocker guards for nothing you are ahead.

A cage is not the place to cut your teeth with welding. Not a bad idea to go that route (buying a welder & learning to weld) if you have plans for other stuff, but start with scrap metal and things your life doesn't depend on like rocker guards.
