Clock/Tach Back Light

I know there are some historical posts on this, but I have a couple of further questions. The backlight on my clock and Tachometer is barely visible at night, especially when compared to my other gauges, which are all adequately backlit. The historical posts tend to lead me to believe that this is a dash ground problem, but herein lies my question. Why would this only affect the clock and tach and not the other gauges? Also, can you get to these gauges without taking the whole dash out? Anyone else encounter this and solve the problem?

Well a couple of post down from yours....

Could be someone put the wrong bulb in there. A little experimentation show the bulb filament needs to be a certain height to work right.

I got my clock to look good but not satisfied on the Tach yet.

Skinny hands can help you pull them out, the clock has a u shaped ring and two nuts.

The Tach has one nut on a plastic cup holding it in place.
