What about desert beige? Or navy gray? Or air force blue (or literally ANY OTHER COLOR THAN MILITARY GREEN)

My apologies... just one of my least favorite colors on a jeep. Ironic, I know!

It’s my understanding that by default all CJ models stands for civilian jeep therefore it is not a wartime vehicle with that said it is fairly easy to make GPW or MB réplicas from cj2a and 3a’s. The problem with the olive drab green is that everyone with early cj’s uses that color and when they are next to each other, none of them are the same. I’d say to hell with ODG. There’s a company that makes military grade paint. they can be found by googling GCI paints. I have a 1946 2a and chose desert sand just to not be such a cliché. It’s not period correct but neither is the v8 tbi motor that’s going in it. Lol

I like green but in this case, since green is over represented, and I used to be in the Navy, I vote for battleship/surf grey. :-)

With a great Jeep comes an empty wallet.

Most Willys sold in Indonesia in 1950/51 were to the Indonesian military. They had some earlier MB/GPWs taken from the Dutch armed forces when they were kicked out and a few MB blitz buggies in bad shape from WW2 but were woefully short of transport. Therefore green could be accurate. There were a lot of MB/GPW spares from 1941/42 lying about so it could be accurate to fit them with military bows and soft tops. A lot of parts such as blackout lights can be sourced from India quite cheaply.

Unfortunately civilian registrations were only introduced in the late 1970s/early 1980s so they do not have log books going back to 1951. at least this one has not been faked to be an MB!!!

So first thing was to probe the metal under the tool box, a common problem area. This was no exception, it was swiss cheese so the guys ripped out the sheet metal, top hat sections underneath are fine. Cut out into the footwell and the sill along the side also got new metal. Long term rotten metal cut out. This is the worst area.

So the bottom of the tool box is now in and the sill repaired.

No other horror stories found so far, but windshield frame is next for some metalwork
