CJ3A - Corona repaint

Thanks to COD-19 the economy in Bali has died on its feet. 12 million unemployed in the tourism sector in Indonesia (at least 90,000 here on this island alone) has dragged down every other sector.

I am lucky, I lost my job in March and after 3 months of fixing Jeeps every day I found a well paid job overseas. Just cannot return!!!!

So my friend Haji Jaipur has a bodyshop and does a really good job. He has nothing for his workers, no way to feed them. He turned up at the house yesterday and offered to repaint any Jeep at rock bottom prices, I feel guilty at the price for repainting my 1951 CJ3A but he is quite insistent so I said OK. I may send my Cherokee down later when I have more cash.

So my US$474 bare metal paint job can be any color I want but not pearl, metal flake etc. It has some minor rust to sort and the existing paint is too soft and not lasting (last repainted about 9 years ago by PO) so it will actually add value.

I narrowed it down to 2 solid colors, green or red. Red because all my Jeeps are painted red, green because it suits an ex military CJ3A and everyone else here has a green Willys. But what shade and what details? I wanted red with yellow wheels, is it too garish?

Any thoughts? The current paint job in the garage with the others, pics from 8 years ago and a few pics off the interweb.

And a few pics around Bali. Almost all green, military uniforms optional but roll cages forbidden.

Love the Crocodile Dundee dude in pic 1 and the “Top Brass”, albeit with a chain link steering wheel, in the last pic - pretty camp that one!

I can picture a red and yellow cj zipping around Bali!

When ever I hear the word 'Jeep' I reach for my wallet.

x2 on the red/yellow. Maybe a blood red (something darker than a bright red) and soft yellow on the wheels (like in the ad with the red/yellow combo and the first red jeep pic where the wheels looked to be a creme color)

I've always liked the green, but would also lean towards the darker red, perhaps the Campus Red on the chip card you posted for the 'unique' factor. Seem like green is represented well in the local jeep population! However, I'm curious, Bagus- why are roll cages forbidden in Bali?

After looking at the pictures in post 1 I'd leave it as is and pick an alternate.

Bagus, since you ask. I don't mind a red Jeep but not with yellow wheels. White or off-white wheels were once popular. What brand paints do you have there? Just curious. I like your M-38. Looks very original. The flat head engine is smooth and quiet.

I like a green metallic for Jeeps or a candy apple red.

Are you going for the military look? If not, go red - match your others and since you said most there are green, makes it more unique.

Roll cages are just not macho in Bali. It is like not smoking whilst putting in petrol / gasoline, just not macho.

Look at all those pics, not a single Willys with a roll cage or roll bar.

I am getting resistance from my family about Campus Red, having invested in real army uniforms they want the right prop.

So back to green.

Cumberland Green looks nice but it is a metallic and I want to lower the cost as this is a "hospital job". There is also Hampshire Green Poly that looks like it might be period correct and satisfy the family.
