CJ to YJ frame

Hi Jeep Gurus,

I'm sure this has been asked, but, I just bought a 1986 CJ7. It needs a frame. Is a 1986 CJ and a 1995 YJ frames the same? I guess my real question is, are CJ and YJ frames the same?

Regards,

Nitor

Thanks,
Jim

No. The YJ frame is 4 inches wider between the rails. Also 4 of the body mounts will be off.
Because the springs are wider apart, your axles will not fit. Engine mounts are welded to the frames in the YJ, so that would be an issue if you have the 6 vs 4 etc.
honestly, search for a CJ frame. You want to get an 82 to 86. Easy to spot as the front shocks have bolt on upper tower brackets.

Is it 4" wider in the rear also?

I thought they only widened the front.
