My 86 Cj7

Hi.
I bought this Jeep in boxes. It was take apart in 1994, and where stored on a farm for 16 years. In 2009 bought it and moved it home to my garage.
This is what condition it was when i bought it:

And this is the progress so far a year after:

The engine has been started yet, but i am close. I am all most finished with the electrical, just lack the cruise control setup and tach and clock.

Any recomandation how to start it since it hasn't been started since 1994? Any precaution i should take?

It looks great. Congratulations on taking the project this far.

There are several posts here on Jeepforum about how to handle an engine that hasn't been started in years. I'll take an amateur stab at it:

I think the most common reccomendation is to put a small amount of lubricant into each cylinder through the spark plug hole a day or two before you start the engine. I don't remember specifically what kind of lube to use, but you might consider 'PB Blaster' (if it's available in your country) or even just regular motor oil.

Then see if you can manually turn the engine over, by hand, I suppose with no belts or accessories connected to the engine. If you can do that, then it's more likely it'll turn over just fine with the starter.

Of course you want to check the oil and coolant levels, install new spark plugs and all of the other related items.

I'd start by flushing everything and then give her new fluids, filters and fuel. Next, the oil on pistons (over night). (Next day) hand crank to make sure it moves. Then I'd run the motor with the starter for a few seconds several times (without sparkplugs) to lubricate. Here's a great link for details.

Jeep looks great I wish I could move that fast. I really miss driving my old 77.
Let us know how she runs.

@Ken4444 & omanwinter:
Thanks a lot for yor feedback.
I have done all the thngs you have tipped me, except flushing the coolant system on the engine. I have allready added fresh collant fluid så i guess i skip this step. :-)

I love this Jeep. I live right right on the Cherokee Forsyth border. I'm surprised I haven't seen this Jeep around before.

Here's one of the 2A I took while out in the yard today. Fixed it up 10 years ago, but it still presents fairly well.
