I can't believe this got brought up! I emailed Steele Rubber to see if they could produce GOOD cowl seals, this was their reply to me:

I will pass this information to the parts team for review. Do you have an original part in case they want to use this as a pattern ?

Does anyone have any original specs or anything of this seal?

I don't have original specs, and I think that seems like an odd request from them. Almost sounds like a "go away" response.

I used the Fairchild seal (https://www.quadratec.com/products/22501_11.htm) and it fit very well. I've had great success with Fairchild seals - also used one for my windshield. They are good quality and have fit perfectly each time.

That's where I got my last one. https://www.steelerubber.com/windshi...rip-70-3004-42

Of course if you have anything newer than a 75 you are SOL.

Did you clean the inside face of the rubber with acetone first??? The rubber is coated from the manufacturer with a teflon-based mold release and this will not bond well (obviously). You'll need a new strip of two-sided because the TFE will transfer onto it rendering that side not so sticky now.

Thanks - I didn't know this! So far as time has gone on the seal is sticking better to the tape. Next time I will keep this in mind.
