You mean like from a 86 CJ-7? They're quite hard to come by and in great demand.

Morning Bob, correct im getting a rear 44 from an 86 cj. Having trouble finding 4.10s made by the best manufacturers dana and yukon. I found 4.11 , which if I'm not mistaken I can run even though my front dana 30 has 4.10s.

Can't help with the shafts, but, as for the gearing, you're fine.

According to Morris 4x4 website they have them from Omix. I would call Dutchmen or Mark Williams, or Moser, and order some shafts, and get a quality part manufactured in the USA. Omix is probably offshore crap from China.

The pandemic has messed everything up. I ordered some Ten Factory chromoly shafts back in February and they kept getting pushed up in shipping dates. I ordered them from a couple sites who said they had them in stock (autoanything, morris, quadratec, summit, etc.) only to have them pushed up again. Last time was up until June 6th... Ended up finding a set of G2's locally (within 100 miles)...cost me an extra 100 bucks.

If you can't find them at the big box places, you could try sourcing them from a local 4wheel drive shop.

Production is down and everybody is at home working on projects. Good luck.

I did eventually get all my parts in (lockers and shafts). Ended up with Ten Factory rear shafts and G2 front shafts...both USA made ...hopefully I won't break anything. I did want the front Ten Factory shafts, but i'm sure the G2's will be fine.

It's all sitting in my garage waiting to go to the shop for install and regear. I've been getting everything prepped so i can drive it more this season. Just finished ball joints, 6 bolt hub conversion, and new lock outs...along with a bunch of other crap. Just need to finish up my compressor installation so I can send it in.

That axle shaft is for the 72-75 cj dana 44 housing. not going to work in an 86 cj dana 44

I had a mechanic swear that some rare ones did, but in all my years of owning them, parting them, working on them, researching them, etc, etc, Ive never read, seen, or heard of a factory front 44

As for a front D44, never from the factory. I run a front D44 from a 77 J10, cut to approximately wide track width.

What is necessary to weld a dana 44 and keep it from drawing. Is the housing steel or iron ?

Lots of diff housings are made of nodular iron which is stronger than ordinary grey cast iron. I can't comment on welding, though.
