All the rearends, frontends I've regeared I did on a couple wooden saw horses. Lay the pinion yoke holding fixture across a saw horse and 210 ft. lbs on a 44 pinion not a problem. Crushing a AMC 20 and Ford 8.8 crush sleeves a little more difficult but I managed using the same method.

Backlash is only 3 or 4 after I pressed on carrier bearings so I messed up my shim count when preloading I guess. Have to wait till tomorrow to correct

Well I went ahead and experimented with my set uo bearings (preloaded) . Backlash .006-.008

Still favors heel a little.. Can't decrease backlash. So maybe I could subtract. 002 inner pinion shims

We should be good. I'm gonna roll with what I got. Got the axles and wheel cylindees and brake lines in (brake lines are a pita by the way). I checked backlash in 3 spots got .007 to .008 in those 3 spots. I did have 1 or 2 tight spots iwhere I got .005 but I don't know what's up with that. Spec is . 006 to -.010. . I)l post a video of my final patterns atleasr the ones I didn't wipe ti check backlash .

ignore the amazon affiliate, i'm not anymore. just helpful information.
Do you happen to know the part number for the original drum brake shoes and drum. According to an online parts site ,I was looking at , the drums that were on there and the replacement drums I got are fir an amc 12 bolt. Obviously we have a 10 bolt dana

Update now the drivers side is quiet but the passenger side is still scraping. Now again leaning toward bent out backing plate from shipping and handling. It looks to be only rubbing on the bottom of the backing plate

If ut turns out not to be a bent backing plate ; i have a question.
Could it be that I used permatex on both sides of the bearing retainer . Just a smeared layer on both sides of the retainer ?

Nm it would be just a few hundredths of an inch
