AMC 20 Disc Brake Conversion Connection Question

Hey All,

I've been working to rebuild the AMC 20 under my 81' CJ7. One of the things I've been working on was the disc brake upgrade. I ordered all parts outlined in this thread, and i've got it all bolted up. However, when connecting the calipers to new brake lines I purchased, the connector seems to be too shallow for the flared tubing to seal the connection.

I took a quick video
, and I wanted to see if anyone has run into this issue before.

I'm guessing the caliper takes a bubble flare, and your CJ lines are a standard double flare end.

You can get adapters, or a line with the proper ends.

Did you buy the brake hoses for a 300z?

@skizriz , thanks for that link and info! This will be very helpful in the future.
@BagusJeep , I did not purchase 300z lines. I purchased the direct replacement for my CJ. I can only assume that because I purchased my calipers new, they didn't include the rubber hose that connects directly to the CJ lines.

I will research an adapter. If anyone has done this before and can save me some time, please let me know.

Order the correct rubber lines for the 300z calipers. no fun to take the hard line loose and re-bleed every time you need to change brake pads, plus with a floating caliper, you will work harden/bend your metal lines every time you push on the brake pedal. You will also need to shorten and re-flare the hard lines and then you can add the clip to the axle housing to hold the hard line end of the rubber line in place.

Make a couple of the small hose brackets like you see in the box beside the caliper brackets. I made an extra set years ago in the event I do another one.

Brutus...I'm doing the same conversion...but I didn't buy the kit. Where did you get your brackets? Non of the old sources seem to be active any more.

They are one offs. I took the pattern to a local company that does all sorts of cuts for industrial work. They were nice enough to cut out two sets for me at no charge. I think the engineer was a jeeper who was happy to have something different and less boring to scan and make. I can’t remember which forum or member I pulled the image from but there are several workable versions available.

I was going to cut some myself but got real lucky in finding the place. The caliper brackets were cut from 3/8 and the hose brackets were cut from 1/8.

No. It’s been 7 or 8 years at least since then...you should be able to pic an image with a point A to B reference or some sort of measurement in order to correctly proportion for CAD. If I recall they simply scanned the best of several images I took to them.
