All Original 86' CJ-7

An all original, 1900 miles, 1986 Jeep CJ-7 is up for auction @ bringatrailer.com.

Beautiful CJ-7 in pristine condition with over 100 pictures to look at. If you want to know how they looked in stock form and a good source to download pictures, then go here: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1986-jeep-cj7-11/

Only the radio is not factory but at least the dash was not hacked for DIN1 radio.

Those mudflaps! I didn't realize those were on them. I know you said it, but I've never seen factory mudflaps on CJs.

Here's another set (mine).

Keith, the lighter/antenna may not be factory, but I bet they were dealer installed. My antenna isn't factory, but was almost certainly installed by the dealer. My cigar lighter is a little more ambiguous, but it's either factory or dealer.

I recognize the username from the cj8 site; they may have an account here as well?

Wow! Love the color combo.
Two things that catch my eye- no power steering or power brakes. And no coolant overflow tank. Most late model CJs I've seen had the coolant overflow tank, was it an option? My 83 was an original base model, hard top, PS, PB, and had the coolant overflow bottle. It also had HD cooling, maybe that was it? Also it was a CA model.

I was fortunate enough to have seen this Jeep in person at Jody and Dawn’s this past September. It is amazing!

I wonder what happened to the chrome lug nuts?

My 1986 CJ-7 had the same tire/wheel package and mine had chrome lug nuts. I ran 31” mud radials on those OEM 7” white wagon wheels for about four years, before upgrading. And I’m pretty sure I still have those OEM lug nuts out in the shop in a coffee can. When I went to a 2.5” lift and 33” tires I put new new (aftermarket) 8” white wagon wheels on it, and the wheels came with new lug nuts, and center caps, so I tossed them in my toolbox. Being a Pontiac guy, the 1/2” lug nuts were of no use over the last 27 years. I’ll be digging those lug nuts out of hiding this weekend. I hope I still have all twenty, that would be a great find, I’ll put them back to use on my 1985 CJ-7.

Speaking of my 1985 CJ-7, it doesn’t have that little plastic shelf under the WW switch. Does anyone know what the purpose of that little shelf was for? It was a very convenient place to locate the intermittent WW switch I installed in my 1986 CJ-7 back in the day. I plan on installing an intermittent WW switch in my current 1985 CJ-7. Maybe I can find that little plastic part used. I know AMC did a lot of funky or different things while building cars...depending on many different factors.

On the Black 1986 it looks like it has an ash tray under the defrost knob. Is that what it is? That would make sense since it has the cigar lighter. My 1985 has the cigar lighter, but no ash tray. Mine must have been built on a Friday.

My 1985 CJ-7 with the cigar lighter and no ash tray, or shelf. The black 1986 with what appears to be an ash tray, a cigar lighter and the plastic shelf under the WW switch.

Maybe my cigar lighter is not OEM?

The cigar lighter itself is not OEM but location and the pullout ashtray are. And it has the fresh air duct that is missing from your CJ. All it did was divert area to the driver but I use to use it to hold my wallet when driving.

Axhammer, if you are looking for original type chrome lug nuts, McGard #74043 are an exact match as the OEM versions. I painstakingly took measurements years ago and purchased several samples until I found the right ones. These are it: https://www.amazon.com/McGard-74043-...939601&sr=8-11

The current bid is $25K with 2 days left on the auction. It will interesting to see what the final selling price is.

I was watching a Collins Bros video of an all original CJ they were selling not to long ago and he said something along the lines that this CJ has the optional ash tray package or cigarette package. So i assume it was a dealer add on or you had to order it that way....

I think the first time someone has to work behind the dash, they remove the driver side air deflector and ashtray to gain better access. Then maybe they get put back, or maybe not...

That's true, regardless of model, they all came with ashtray and lighter. Even if you optioned A/C, it still came with them but located in a different area. What is considered a "Smokers Package" today, was the norm back then.
