Air filter for Howell fuel injection

Hey guy’s what air filters are you using on your Howell fuel injection systems? I can’t use the 10 inch they recommend because of the power brake system. Looking for some suggestions. Thanks

I have a MC2100 and power brakes on mine. The stock air filter designed for power brake CJs won't fit on a MC2100. So I had to go with a cheesy CAI to get around the size issue. I took some ribbing when I posted pics of it. Took a bit to convince them that I know I was not getting cold air and I know it is was not creating more HP. It was just a cheap and easy fix to find a air filter that would fit my setup.

Summit Racing has offset air cleaner bases. They move a 14" filter 1-1/2" so the distance from the center of the carb to the edge of the filter housing is 5-1/2". Maybe this could work for you?

I used the K&N 9 inch and I have power brakes. Clearance is fine. I'll get a picture tonight if you want it.

I fitted the stock air cleaner on My 1980 304. Not sure if Howell uses the same throttle body for the 258. It matched up really good.

So probably same as Holley four barrel.

Sure thing. Here you go. Pay no attention to the zip ties on the wiring! I just put in a new harness and haven’t loomed it up yet.

I put a 9” filter on mine, it has a 5 1/8” base, same as a four barrel (holley or Q-jet). I guess a larger diameter would have worked since I have manual brakes, but it’s only a 110 HP 258 CID motor, it’s not like it moves a lot of air.

Looks identical to mine with manual brakes. Should be plenty of room with the brake booster.

I'd use one of these, with the original air cleaner assembly before going to an open element type.
