'74 CJ5 charging issues

Need some help. I have a new (refirb) alternator, which checks good at O'Riley's.
But when on the jeep I'm not getting any voltage on any of the posts. That's with the regulator connected and disconnected.
What am I doing wrong?

What type alternator do you have--GM type with internal regulator or Motorola with external alternator? Our 74 was converted by a PO from Motorola to GM alternator.

I'm assuming you have a Motorola alternator.

So turns out the "AMPS" lamp on my instrument cluster was not even wired up. Once I wired it to the switched side of the ignition, and changed the bulb, the alternator started charging. It was missing the excitation portion.

Now to figuring out why it will not stay running...
