360 Oil Leak

Hi all. I just finished my 304 to 360 swap and on the first startup, there is a bad oil leak coming from the area near the rear oil of the oil pan up against the clutch inspection plate. I pulled the pan and replaced the gasket (even though the original looked good). I used just a light amount of rtv to hold the gasket in place and a blob in the 4 corners of where the gasket meet the rubber. Also, the leak only seems to happen once the engine get hot (or the thermostat open) and then you can see it start flowing in a continuous stream not just a drip. It takes about 10 mins at idle to start flowing down the front of the inspection cover. Any ideas? Should I try sealant around the entire pan (even the front and rear rubber)?

Hi, are you sure its not coming from the valley pan area at the intake Or a valve cover gasket? If they Valley area drains plugged it would take maybe like 10 mins. for it to fill up and start leaking?
good luck

It a good thought but not likely. No smoke anywhere.

there is a "freeze plug" at the back of the cam shaft. This could be leaking oil. The worst part is the location (behind the flywheel/flexplate)!!

Only need the Time, tools, money, and a place to do it. At least I am half way there..

You need to pinpoint the leak. As stated, make sure it isn't flowing from the upper part of the engine. It is common for the valve covers/intake gasket to leak oil down the back of the block.

If it isn't, then your options are:
cam plug
oil galley plug
rear main seal
pan gasket

Transmission fluid?
