304 Rebuild

So the 304 in my 74 CJ5 is locked up. Who besides Summit Racing has complete engine rebuild kits?
Thanks.

Thanks. I tried Auto Zone, Advance, and O'Riellys but they only had gaskets.

Too bad you're not closer to NC. I have a buddy that's about to take a partially disassembled 304 to the scrap yard.

I just Googled "AMC 304 master engine kit" and came up with a whole page of offerings......

I'll bet you can find all the parts you need to rebuild it from any of the stores. If it is locked down you don't want a master kit. You will probably need over bore pistons and rings and under sized bearings. Your machine shop will give you a list of what to order.

Master kits come with piston size options, usually in .010, .030, .040, and .060 over. In the old days, some kits included a .010/.010 crank as well. There are still a couple of vendors that offer a crank as an added component. Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a machine shop locally that can turn your crank if it is needed. If not you will have to mic the crank and order the appropriate bearings (which should be offered with the kit as well).

As Bob stated, you will want to disassemble it and have your machinist give you an idea on what he recommends boring it out to.
