Cj 1980 CJ-5, rebuild(ish)

I am rebuilding (fixing) my wife's 1980 CJ-5. She want's to put an fuel injected I6 in it with, I believe, a 5 gear trans. I am trying to find the best fuel injected I6 for it but I am not sure what would be best for a CJ-5. Any knowledge is helpful. And no I am not allowed to put a 8 in it.

Gonna be tight in a cj5, but i would look for a wrecked 5spd tj and take the 4.0 and ax15 and adapt on your dana 300. luckily being an 80, you should have the short output dana 300 to help out with the length.

Fill out your Jeep profile (current engine, transmission, transfer case, axles/gears, etc. That will help the forum vets when you are seeking advice. Also get numerous photos (different angles) of the exterior, and under hood pics (for the same reasons mentioned above) uploaded to this thread. It's easier to give advice when we have a visual of what you are working on.

How about a nice Chevy V6? You can get them in a regular TBI or MPFI

It would be much shorter giving you more room to place things in a CJ5.
