Hi JeepCares,
Thanks for your message of support. I just bought an 03 grand Cherokee which has an issue with the location of the gas tank. The fix for this is meant t be the installation of a hitch to increase strength in the rear. Id like to have this done, however the dealer I took my Jeep to yesterday says it will cost me over $1000 to have one installed. There is no rust or corrosion on the vehicle.

Do you have advice on what I should do?
Thank you.

go to another dealer, that one is dishonest/incompetent if there is truly no rust or damage to where the hitch mounts. Or, just take it to a trailer supply place and have a nice Draw-Tite class 3 hitch installed, its probably better than what Chrysler was giving for the recall. I took our '98 in for the recall, on which I installed the factory hitch and skid about 20 years ago, they inspected it and pronounced it fine! In your case if you can find the factory gas tank skid that adds even more protection, I'd add both as I did myself years ago.
