For the Oregon Residents

Don't know if anyone has seen this, but one of the companies that I'm friends with on Facebook just posted this. Would probably be a good time to holler at your respective representative about this.

Quote:
SEMA: URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Oregon Reintroduces Bill to Limit Suspension/Tire Alterations

A bill (H.B. 3147) has been introduced in the Oregon legislature that would severely limit vehicle suspension, body lift and wheel/tire alterations. Specifically, H.B. 3147 would ban vehicles whose bumpers are elevated more than 3 inches over the original manufactured bumper clearance. Identical legislation was last introduced in Oregon in 2001.

We Urge You to Contact Members of the Oregon House Committee on Transportation and Economic Development (List Attached Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 3147

H.B. 3147 would ban reasonably altered vehicles due to overstated concerns with bumper mismatch.

H.B. 3147 discriminates against hobbyists and aftermarket parts makers by leaving it solely to the vehicle manufacturers to choose bumper heights.

H.B. 3147 would force owners of modified vehicles to spend large sums of money to reinstall original components.

H.B. 3147 would ban useful alterations that provide adequate clearance for on/off road capability and accommodate heavy loads, larger tires, improved suspension and water-fording capability

H.B. 3147 would impose a fine of up to $360 per offense for vehicles that exceed the 3 inch clearance requirement.

DON’T DELAY! This bill tramples on the rights of 4x4 vehicle enthusiasts in Oregon. Please contact members of the House Committee on Transportation and Economic Development immediately by phone or e-mail to request their opposition to H.B. 3417.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at [email protected]. Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts. Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.

With the amount of lifted 4x4's in Oregon, I'm sure none of those are going to get through. It would be political suicide.

Besides, we ALSO have full fender flare coverage here too. Not many people in my area get pulled over for it either.

Ahhhh....I love Wyoming more and more everyday.

You know Jesus wasn't married. No wife lets you come home after three days with the excuse "I was dead".

I hear you man, Alabama is basically the same way. If your vehicle basically runs and drives down the road, you're good to go.

Nope. While we have our fair share of lifted vehicles driven by the country boys, the majority of Oregon is Liberal and reside in one of three cities. Portland, Eugene, and Ashland are really the only liberal places in this state, but they control most everything that goes on for the rest of us. Obviously this is how it is in most every state, but it does rankle me a bit when a coupld of cities get to decide what is best for the rest of us, who don't live in cities.

This is for the same reason that modern vehicles can't have bumpers or breakover angles like they could even 10 years ago. If you crash into a small car, such as a Prius, there's too much potential for driving right over and on top of it. So they've regulated the car companies to making it more likely that the vehicle will hit low enough to crumple it instead of climbing over, in which the occupants would suffer worse injury or death. This is the reasoning given, and likely the reason Oregon is considering such legislation.

Washington and Oregon both need to be split down the Cascades into separate states.
