What roof rack to get

07 Overland CRD If money was no object what roof rack would you buy and why?
I've been thinking about putting a rack on the roof for extra gear and a spare tire since a 265 won't fit in the factory spare location. I see racks for $149 all the way to $500
Only special thing I may actually bolt to the rack would be a rear flood light or light bar to help out with the reverse camera at night.

265 is the width of your tire, not the diameter. There is a hitch mod that may be enough for you to put your spare back in its place.

As far as roof rack goes, that depends on what you plan to use it for, weight and volume. If its just for camping a couple of times with some small weight, even with the spare, a cheap Craigslist find can be all you need. I found some no-name rack on Craigslist for $30 when I needed one in a pinch and was sufficient. You could easily mount a light to it.

The factory rails are cheap plastic crap. Rocky Road Outfitters are the only ones making aftermarket roof rails, IIRC.

I made my own rails and am almost done with my roof rack. Having a child has proved difficult to get Jeep things done since her birth last year.

The Gobi rack is nice but is by far the most expensive. It does have a lot of options for it though.

Wow, money is an object when it comes to a $1600 for a Gobi Rack, I saw a no name rack at Sportsmans Ware House last weekend It was assembled and on a display in the camping area. Flimsy as ever

Then the other day I was checking out a used Tahoe that had a rack on it, that rack could have served as a landing pad for a helicopter. Couldn't find a name on it though.

I ask for a good name because I like to buy stuff once.

We put a Kargomaster on our 98 ZJ about 5 years ago, good quality and you could get custom mounts for the ZJ roof rails. Then it was about $450, if I wanted a rack for the WK I’d check that one out....

You'd just need to figure out the mounts.

Solid and not that expensive.

Build your own! haha

This will eventually be made out of aluminum, have a front fairing with an integrated 40" light bar with 80/20 extruded aluminum cross bars. The one quote I have now is 350 just to get the side plates laser cut. Then 200 for the extruded aluminum. Its on the to do list but after building the rear bumper with a dual swing-out.
