Hi all... new guy here. Seems like a good thread to say howdy on... Just got an 07! 96k miles, HEMI, QDII, totally stock. Yeehaw. It's my 5th Jeep and my first Commander. I've had it less than a week... On the list for next week: my Rocky Road Outfitters 2.25 lift arrives today, Spidertrax 1.5 spacers arrive tomorrow, and yesterday I scored 5 2012 Rubicon wheels and a brand new 255/75/17 BFG MT (was a spare) for $200 on craigslist. Gotta order some tires and I'll have this thing a bit more ready for the dirt in the next week or so. I understand I'm in the "maybe barely possible" range of stuffing that spare into the area underneath... that will be an upcoming project too...

I gotta say, the Commander is a Cadillac compared to my previous jeeps. This thing is plush!

Anyway, hi! Someday I'll be allowed to post pictures

Replaced all rear wheel bolts after two failed after 14,000 miles. Bought ss ones instead of those black steel ones.

Found rr hub leaking. So will be replacing both rears. Found out that the "seal" IS the O-ring.

When I got my WK two years ago I had the rear pinion seal replaced because it was leaking. About a month ago I had it replaced and it lasted two weeks before leaking again. The venting was not an issue the 2nd time and the sealing surface is OK so I'm a bit concerned I need a new rear axle. Time will tell...

That o-ring....

My right rear axle has a small seep (that smells like a gusher) at the o-ring. The dealer tried twice, I tried once, and then replaced the entire hub (new o-ring too) and it is still seeping. That's FOUR tries and four fails.

I'm trying to remember if there's anywhere in there I could run a bead of RTV...

If the left one isn't leaking- leave it alone.

Poor grammar is something up with which I shall not put.

I drove about 20 hours this weekend and the jeep performed well. Here's a photo from a month ago, it was raining today.

Actually yesterday but paid aamco 320 bucks to remove the lh valve/cam cover and found #5 intake valve deized in the head possibly bent on the opposite side the rocker lash adjuster and valve spring went through the cover. So i think im looking at at minimum a valve job but probably new head depending on how bad the valve bore looks but everyo shop wants to put used ju nk yard motors in for 4500 even though i beleive a valve job or head job will do for now or a reman for 2900.

having worked for an automotive recycling yard, I would never put a recycled engine in a car unless it was just to get it running and sell it. those engines go thru hell in the yard, plus you never know how they were maintained before being pulled from the vehicle. Id pull the head and see what condition its in and then decide what to do. good luck.
