Used the roof rack for the first time... Christmas Trees for us and the mother in law

Well we finally got a change to use our roof basket for the first time. We got two pretty sizable Christmas Tress in it without any problem at all. The tree guy was doubtful but we got it. Let me know what you think!

Christmas is saved again!

I don't see your mother-in-law up on the rack. And why two trees just for you and your wife?

The basket looks like it helped a lot. I used to have a pickup, which was great for trees. Looks like I'll be throwing a tree on top as well this year.

haha, na i wont put her up on top, i like her alot so i need to keep her around. The basket did help seeing that my car would never have gotten a tree home unless it was packed in a pretty small box. it really worked out great and im glad we decided to get the basket and extension. Those extra few inches really helped out.

How much do those style of roof racks usually run? I'll probably be looking for one early next summer.

That's probably his wife. The chick standing out the door is probably his sister in law!

haha come on now, dont get it twisted. the lady in the back seat is my mother in law. She was in a great mood, the camera just caught her at a bad time. The beauty up front is indeed my wife. She loves her commander and hopefully we will add some new stuff in the not too distant future!

Also, the rack was around 400-450 for everything. We also go the extension and that cost a little more. They installed the original rack and then i added the extension later and it was easy. A little awkward but it was easy.

The basket attaches to the factory cross bars without a problem by using these little mounts. Check this link for diagrams and instructions: http://www.yakima.com/files/8007080-instr.pdf. I love it and i wouldnt mind getting the lights that attach to it. Also, it comes with an accessory bar that you can use for whatever. We bought some yakima boas so we could throw out bikes up top it we need to.

Let me know if you need anything else!!!

I really like the look of this rack and would consider installing one, but....

What is it like for wind noise on the highway?

Have you noticed any impact on fuel economy?

it can be a bit noisey at times, i need to figure out how to make that go away, im sure there is a solutions, i just havent thought of it yet.

Im not sure about the fuel economy, we havent had it on that long and most of the driving tends to be city so its hard to tell.

Awesome rack! Last week I strapped my tree down to my rack using a couple Thule straps like you did too but lost the tree 1/2 way home next time I'm gonna run the straps to the trunk and around 2x and back to the rack instead of over the top of the loose limbs for sure!
Dont worry - the tree is OK I was only going about 30 when it caught wind but I'll have a hard time living that down and will probably have to be reminded about it over and over again every Xmas I think!!
