Removing rear tow hook - 2008 WK Grand Cherokee

I have a 2008 Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7L and I am trying to add a trailer hitch. In order to install the Curt hitch, I need to remove the rear tow hook. Will I need to remove the rear bumper cover to remove that tow hook? Does anyone who has done this before have any insight on the process?

Not a mechanic by any means, just a guy with YouTube. Thanks in advance for the advice.

I think you will need to, but you probably would have to remove the bumper to install the tow hitch anyways. I removed mine when I installed a factory hitch and I think the head of the bolt was behind the bumper and the nut for it was welded to the cross bar. It not too difficult to remove, just a couple screws and a lot of plastic clips. You need 3 plastic rivets per side to reattach the wheel well liner.

Back here visiting from the WK2 Forum. I installed a Curt hitch on my 08 Laredo and it was not necessary to remove the bumper. Actually a pretty easy install. I did not have a tow hook so cannot speak to that. Be happy with the easy tail light plug in connections. On my new 2014, due to LEDs, one must run a separate wire to the battery under the seat. Not fun.
