Oil fumes in the cabin - '08 CRD

Hi yall, Im new to the jeep CRD platform just picked up a 2008. I have had diesels for the past 15 years(VW). Noticed that oil vapor odor when engine is warm and idling for a long period of time so Im going to try this simple mod to see how it works. First I removed the passenger w/wiper, then I removed the plastic air intake on the cowl. I flip it upside down and used duct tape block off the forward facing slots. I also blocked off a small section of the upper, inboard slots. The tape is on the inside of the cowl and can be seen in the picture as the tan area. Going to give it a try for a few months and report back.

I had a smell like that when i got mine, it kind of smelled like fresh asphalt. It turned out to be a leaky fuel filter which was a pretty easy and cheap fix.

Hi
Check the 'plumbing' from the ccv to the turbo intake. A leak will give you oil vapour smell.

Also pull off the engine covers and look for an injector leak, those are pretty smelly too.

....and check the front differential vent hose termination on the firewall in the same area as the fresh air intake.

The grommet where the electrical cabling goes into the cab can come loose and when that happens about all you can do is stuff a rag in the hole. If somebody has modified the crank venting that is likely the problem. Lastly, I think I bent the rear hatch in my rig a couple weeks ago. They are pretty flimsy where the flipper glass is located...I now have exhaust fumes coming into the vehicle after trying to force the hatch down onto a large box.

Injector seals, but that is more of an exhaust smell
