Nightmare today

Opened the lift gate to my 09 jeep grand cherokee today to find a small puddle of water had leaked into the trunk. Took apart the back panels and started using the hose. More water came in and wasn't able to find where it came from. Finally after 9 hours of looking, there was a small hole to the left near the rook rack where water was getting in. Water was also getting in through the weather stripping but some quick weather stripping glue held it in along with some silicone. Now mind you, this was leaking last summer too but was in different areas such as an area behind one of the hinges on the outside of the ligate that i put silicone on. Theres also 2 star nuts on each hinge if you remove the paneling on the inside that tend to leak so i put silicone in them as well. After a year now the other star nut started leaking so i had to put silicone on that one too. SO yeah, 9 hours today trying to find a dam leak. Glad i found it but man, is this some kind of defect with this model year? has anyone else had this issue? This lift gate area is some bad news if it needs silicone to prevent leaks
