Looking to Purchase a CRD powered WK. What year and Overland or Not?

Looking to purchase a Diesel WK but I heard that the Overland might have a different transmission that is not as good as the base models. Is this true?

2007 and 2008 in North America. I like the looks of the 2008+ better myself.
You'll find most are probably Limiteds or Overlands, not much difference really.
If you want to do offroading, look for the Quadra-Drive 2 system, there will be a badge on the center console along with a lever to engage 4-Low gearing.
The Quadra-Trac 2 system is still a very good system, but does not have the electronic limited slip differentials the QD2 has.

All CRD jeep have the same NAG1 transmissions. This trans is used in the Mercedes CDI and the Sprinter Vans with the CRD. I would say its a good transmission.

ggrassmid is Correct. All CRDs have the same transmission regardless of trim. The drive system is also independent of the trim level. I.e. my base Laredo CRD has the Quadra-drive II (QD2) system mentioned earlier.

^ mine does as well. Be sure to check for the existence of a front diff and count the rear diff bolts to confirm QDII as some people have reportedly found 2WD models that someone had put a QDII badged console in.

I have an 07 Overland with the CRD and QDII
Forgive my ignorance but doesn't the 08 CRD need the diesel exhaust fluid?

What system is more reliable? Quadra-drive2 or Quadra-trac2?

I have a 2008.5. It does not require DEF.

Hi
Theoretically quadra trac2 will be the most reliable as it has less to go wrong. That does not mean that quadra drive2 is unreliable by the way and given choice I would take QD2 every time.
ggrassmid and underscore like this.

1 thing to consider with the Overland is the extra options could = more small things to go bad. I have the Overland edition and so far everything on it works except the cd player that eats cd's

I wish i had gotten the overland, my wifes is an 05 limited 5.7, so loaded, and she drives mine a lot to save fuel. i miss having the memory seat that puts the seat back to where i like it and changes the radio presets to my taste

and as much as i used to laugh at rain sense wipers, having used it on hers and then mine without, i wish i had them.

Oh and dual zone climate control, she likes a furnace and i like a fridge, we miss it on road trips because we always take mine, because of fuel costs.

So since i got the CRD it has become the only vehicle we use unless we have to go separate places, we work at the same office with same hours, so that helps.

Finding a rust free low mileage CRD in Ontario was a challenge and i feel lucky to have gotten this one. most that i looked at where beat to crap and run to the ground, this one was perfect inside and out.

When i was looking all i could find was Laredos or Overlands.

As others have mentioned its only the trim level that is different, What 4wd is in looks like an option, though i think the overland is more likely to come with the QDII, mine is only QTII

You may also be able to find an S-limited CRD in the states. It was only an option in Canada in 08. There are some that have since been imported and federalized here in the US. They are basically an overland with SRT interior and styling.
