Key Fob broken, anyway to use the cut key to start the jeep?

I have a 2008 Grand Cherokee, and while replacing the fob battery a part of the circuitboard flew off. I do not have anything to solder it back on with. Is there any way to start the engine with just the cut key (valet key)? The jeeps battery may be dead as well. If the fob is broken and I have the Valet key inserted, can this still start the car?

Doubt it. The fob transmits a code to the ignition module to allow starting. You can try it, but I wouldn't bet on it

no way to run it w/o the chip key. also if you have less than 2 working chip keys, there's no way to add a new one w/o a locksmith or the dealer programming it to the jeep.

you might try and find someone good with electronic repair in your area. surface mount soldering isn't difficult, but it's more difficult than soldering leaded components.

do you have the component that popped off the board? and is it usable still?

The FOB transponder doesn’t require a battery to start the vehicle . Battery is only for the lock/unlock buttons.

OP didn't say what part flew off, hopefully part of the unlock circuitry and not the transponder then

There's two parts to the circuitry in the key and they work separately. Depending on what broke it might still work, you may as well give it a shot.

I learned my lesson. Paid the dealer $250 for a second key.
As soon as I had two working keys I made a third myself. Ordered a blank on Amazon for $8 and programmed it with the two working keys. Did this to my wife’s Grand Caravan too....
