Are you talking about these? > http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2008-2010-Jee...tWKFMo&vxp=mtr

If so, what in particular have you heard about them not being very good? I was thinking about getting a set this spring.

Those are indeed the ones he was talking about.

Output:
I did not test these when I got them because you need a D1s ballast & D1s bulbs to do so. But judging from what I took apart with these headlights I can say that the projector has a dull finish on the bowl. Notice in my last post the last picture, how that reflector bowl is mirror finish? That's ideally what you want since OEM projectors come like that.

Now that isn't saying they won't still surpass the halogen assemblies in light output, that's just saying that performance could be better. I have a feeling like most of the folks who said they weren't good were probably not using the correct bulb type or used a color bulb that was not good in the first place.

Fitment:
I have yet to test fitment on mine but everything seems to be in the right place.

Would it be easy to just replace the project itself with a better unit like a Lexus RX or Acura TSX projector from TRS? Looking at other options other than LED, and like I've read before that the ebay OEM style projectors aren't very good.

Hey sorry it took me a few days to respond. I have been out of town for work.

The OEM projectors could be easily replaced with the:
- Mini H1
- Valeo D1s (OEM Projector)

I'm unsure of the RX or TSX you mentioned. The OEM shroud is not very wide which severely limits your projector choice. If I remember I will grab a ruler and take some measurement pictures of the OEM shroud.

I'm having a pretty hard time deciding on which shroud to use for the High Beam projector.

Here are a few of my choices. If you disagree and think a different one would look better pleas take a look HERE and let me know. I'm open to suggestions.

Orbit-

Apollo 2.0-

Bullet-

MC-R-

Apollo 2.0 - I would prefer a smooth look myself.

Thanks

I was leaning toward the Orbit or Apollo. I wish the weather would break a little so I could go out and work on this.

Did you see my post about the HID projector swapping?

Yes I did. Thanks. I think I'll get the OEM style black ebay set and replace the projector and lens for better output.
There are other ways of adding on a halo that using Oracle or LED Concepts. I found these, I think would work well and offer a "low profile"

You could buy one and try it out! The strip idea is kinda what Omelet did in his headlight build. I thought about doing some halos but that has since been removed from my plan. I haven't even tried to figure out the demon eye low beams yet.

I think the OEM Valeo D1s will take a "TSX-R" clear lens. It would get the most out of the projector though. TRS just realeased their new Mini H1 7.0. Supposedly it has the widest beam they have been able to produce yet and comes with the stock clear lens.

So it's been a while since I last worked on this. I have no heat in the detached garage so it makes it very uncomfortable working out there in the cold. Since the weather is slowly turning around I thought it would be good for me to break back into this project. My goal was to start making some brackets. The plan is to take measurements and CAD the bracket on my lunch break. I will transfer it to sheet metal or outsource that part.

Took measurements the best I could with a ruler I have.

Did a quick sketch and cut. I'm thinking about making this a 2 piece bracket. A "U" shape on top and a cross brace on the bottom. I'm going to CAD up the design today on my lunch break and see what I come up with.

Took the top half of the High Beam projector off and set it in the reflector. I think this is going to look really really good when I'm done.

Here are some size shots of the Murano/G37 Sedan/H9 Kia.

G37/Kia Width (These Halogens really are slim)

Murano/G37 (No bulb/igniter)/Kia (with bulb) Length -

Murano/Kia (with bulb) Length (They're pretty much the exact same length) -

Here is a very rough & rushed first pass. It'll get the job done lol I printed it out and am going to cut it up at home to check it and or tweak it. I was reading on my break and right before I finished I realized I was going to CAD this up.

Oh yeah, looking good. Makes me think I should do mine too, but I barely drive the Jeep at night and plan to sell in about two years. But damn I have a retro itch. Sigh

Are you cutting this yourself, or getting it fab'd somewhere?
