Denver CRD swirl motor resistor?

Does anyone near Denver, CO have an extra 1 watt 4.7k ohm resistor?

Looks like my swirl motor finally kicked the bucket (not bad at 130k miles!), she dropped into limp mode with flashing lightning bolt and threw OBD code P2015. Iíve read about the swirl motor failure stuff from conflicted racerís blog and can have a 10 pack of the needed resistors delivered in about 4 days but figured maybe a fellow member might have like 9 extras in a toolbox somewhere.

Thanks!

You can't find them locally? I got mine at the Radio Shack in town.

Radio shack? What's that? Lol.
I seriously didn't think they were even in business anymore. Googled it and in Denver it looks like they have downsized to 3 kiosks inside of other stores; I'll call one of them when they open at 10 am.

Grainger and my local commercial electrical distributor don't seem to have any either. I'm sure someone in town has some for sale, I just don't know where to look. Would hobby stores carry this type of resistor?

I took a bunch of swings and got zero hits! Lol Iíve tried a few electrical stores, radio shack kiosks, hobby stores and nobody has any.

I have the following part on the way, pretty sure itís the correct one, can anybody verify?

Parts Express 4.7K Ohm 1W Flameproof Resistor 10 Pcs. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002ZP16G..._b7GlDb30QDPXP

Also please still reach out if you have an extra near Denver as olí Jeepy will be limping until Friday.

Also also, vice versa: after Friday reach out if you need one, Iíll have like 9 extra.

You can buy a premade plug from CBE. It's $25, but at least its ready to go.
He also makes them for the ERG plug, if you ever remove that.

Thanks for the info! I remember seeing these there when I got his intercooler upgrade and thought about buying one but with time being my #1 factor I just went with amazon. At least Iíll have a few spares I guess.

If you need 1W and 4.7k ohms you can use two 1/2W 9.4k in parallel, or four 1/4W 18.8k in parallel if those are easier to find.

Alternatively two 1/2W 2.35k or four 1/4W 1,175 in series, but those don't sound like very common sizes.

The wattages can be higher than listed, but not lower.

Why is more than 1/4 W needed? Surely the maximum power this resistor might be required to handle is about 0.04 W because the power being dissipated in a resistor is the voltage squared divided by the resistance. I don't know what voltages are normally across this resistor, but the worst case is full alternator voltage - say 14 volts. A 1/4 W resistor therefore would be well within its stride.

Having said that, if I had a 4.7K ohm 1W resistor to hand I would use it simply because it will be more physically robust. Stringing 1/4 W resistors together will not be physically robust (weakest link etc) so would get no advantage. You will not find resistors of the other values mentioned there anyway - preferred resistor values go on a logarithmic scale

OP is the one asking for those specs, not me, so I have no idea why he wants 1W. I also have no idea what electronics shops are nearby or what weird things they do (or don't) stock but looking for 1 of 3 weird options is better than 1 of 1. I wouldn't run multiple resistors long term but I definitely would if I was stuck somewhere or waiting for the other one to come in the mail.
