Accessing 2P in the 545RFE

Anyone know how to easily and routinely access 2P in the 05-06 WK 545RFE transmission? I've fooled with it a little but not enough to figure out all the particulars. I am pretty sure about the only way (besides forced down shifts) to do it is through the Tow/Haul Mode. I'd like to be able to have the following shift pattern.......1st, 2nd, 2P, 3rd, 4th, 5th.

06 GCO, Dk Khaki, QDII, Flshing Hi 3rd Bk Lt, MDS "ON" Lt, Airtab Vortex Gens, Debadged, Fumoto Drain Valve, BT Catch Can, Chopped EGR Tube, SRT8 CAI, AFE Air Filter, Sonnax Trans Line Press Booster, SC Tuner W/Adv Trans Tune App, DS and HP tuners, Transgo Shift Kit, ARH Long Tube Hdrs w/3 in Magnaflow/Xlerator AP Exh Sys, Bilsteins, SRT Springs/Sways, Cust Eng Cvr, SRT8 frt/rear bumpers, FRI Sidewinder Cam w/6* advance/6.1 valvetrain, SLP 25% UD Pulley, BBK true 90mm T-Body, SOS Ign Coils w/.060 spark plug gaps, TEA ported/milled heads w/new valve seats, SRT Reps with 265/45&295/40X20's. Also 05 Hemi LX modded exactly like WK and Comp Cammed 06 300CSRT8.

I don't know what changed, but on 08+ models it's included in the autostick range. The display will show 1-5 but 3 is 2p, 4 is 3rd and 5 is 4th. That likely didn't help you at all, but it's info nonetheless.

AHH! That's why when I manually shift my 08 Hemi wk I get this gear in between!! I always assumed it was lock up, it's probably 2p! I like it a lot,just didn't know what it was! pulls like a freight train in that gear! I will have to verify with my scan tool when I get it out of storage in the spring. My 05 wk 4.7 doesn't shift the same way. It would be nice to program that in so it would do it in auto mode. Sorry, no answers, just info at this time.

You guys are lucky. Wish I could figure out how to easily access it in my 06. It would be so much better.

Yep, best passing gear ever. The 2, 2p, 3 shifts are great.

Where did you find this info? I would have thought 1-5 were just as labeled, and D was overdrive. When you put it in tow/haul, it drops out of overdrive and shows you’re in 5 which is 5th isn’t it?

I noticed it immediately when I got my Jeep. I was very familiar with the trans from a previous truck and could tell that the ratios didn't match the numbers shown.

You can't manually select 5th gear in any of these. Pre 08 models show 4, then D. 08+ will show 5, then D. In either case, 4th gear (.75:1) is the highest you can select.

Not being able to find 2P used to be my biggest issue when I used to go to the drags. I haven't been in quite a few years but am planning to go again this year to see how it does with it modded the way it is now. It used to go through the 1/4 mile lights shortly after shifting to third....about maybe 100-150 yards before them. There was always a giant bog when it would go from 2nd to 3rd. I am guessing that if I could get 2P instead of 3rd, I could cut 2-4 tenths of a second off my times. IMO, that's how bad it is. Here's a very old video of it at the drags.

Interesting. So manually selecting 3 is the only way to get 2p, or does tow/haul mode add 2p to the mix without manual selection?

That's interesting. On mine I'll have to try it in Tow/Haul mode with the shift lever in the 3 position. Wonder if that'll put 2P in before 3rd like your later ones? Do the later ones do that when in Tow/Haul mode?

The trans never shifts from 2 to 2p on it's own, only if I select it with the shifter.

When I get it out of storage, I'll fool around with the Tow/Haul and select the different gears to see what happens.

I only ever notice it in manual mode in my 08 Hemi. I will try selecting tow/haul mode in my 05 today and see if it will get 2P??

Thanks, Todd. I'll try to get my 06 out of storage some time this week and I'll give mine a try too.

@90grandoneer , have you ever looked into a 645rfe trans swap/programming?
I believe the 545 and 645 are identical. 645 uses 2p as a primary gear.
