3.0 CRD: This Jeep is on fire... literally :-(

The insulation above the DPF and the Cat caught on fire today. Has anybody seen this/had this happen?
Looks like the stuff just came loose and came to rest right on the DPF and/or the CAT which get really warm once in a while. So there was first white smoke, lots of it and then an open flame underneath.
Needless to say wife and children are no longer amused with this vehicle (they drove it home and then realized this happened) and we put the fire out with a garden hose quickly.

What do I do? Rip the loose material out? Replace it? With what?

Any suggestions are welcome.

trim it back with some metal shears, or remove it completely. i just removed the entire shielding from my wj, but it's the same material and design as the wk. (which i also own) it's a poor design, and they pull out of the screws that hold them in place, quite easily.

The DPF may have been doing a burn when that happened...is that flex damaged at all? I would be hesitant to remove the shield on a CRD.

Might be my eyes but that flex connection at the exhaust where it goes to flange, look rotted? like metal fibers are missing. Is it leaking. Looks like the only source in that pic. would be hot.

might be just the pic too.
