2009 Grand Cherokee Limited parksense issues

Ever since we purchased this Jeep back in December, it had a message in the EVIC that says that the parksense system needs service. Two of the rear bumper sensors were not working, so I replaced all 4of them. They are all working, but the message won't clear, and the parksense system doesn't work properly. The camera works, but the alarm doesn't. Is the parksense module in need of resetting? If so, how can this be done?

Thanks!

Looks like it might be something in the shifter assembly.

If that message is up then there are codes triggering it. In this case, The vehicle may have to be running and/or in a specific gear / Reverse. You’ll also need a good scanner. I would think a BlueDriver would do it.

I have a scanner, but it's just a Harbor Freight one. Good enough to show and clear most codes, but I guess not enough to read these codes.

The rear display often goes bad due to water intrusion. I had a code indicating lost communication. I replaced it with one from eBay, and it worked for a couple months. Had to replace it a 2nd time after finding water coming in from the gps antenna.

Are you seeing any lights coming on at all on the rear display?

There is also a module for it under the rear seat. If the new display doesn’t solve it.

By lights, do you mean the red LEDS? If so, only occasionally. The camera works well, just no alarm. I really would like to avoid a dealership, if at all possible.

Ya, I would look into either a BlueDriver or appcar-diagFCA https://appcar-diagfca.com/en/ . For ~$100ea either one would pay for itself.

I live with gravel and snow so those cameras and sensors are absolute garbage and I would delete it all together if I had it . That’s where the appcar would be handy.
Good luck

Yeah the led lights on the display. It doesn’t have anything to do with the rear camera. Sounds like the display is your issue.

You can get one on eBay for around $50. Part # 56046042.

It’s easy to swap yourself. The top trim piece pops out with a prying implement, which allows you to reach under the headliner and swap it. A plastic trim ring slides to one side to release it, and there is one electrical connector on it.

While you’re in there, make sure the gps antenna is tight.

The LED lights up occasionally, along with the alarm. But that is rarely.

You've obviously been there before, so can you tell me how you came up with the display being the issue? Just trying to learn my way around this vehicle.

Thanks!

Well I pulled the code with appcar. There was no real information about the code to be found as it was rather obscure. Mine had occasional random leds lighting up, so I purchased the display on eBay in hopes that it would solve the issue and it did.

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the Bluedriver. Should be here soon.

Did your alarm stop working, too?
