2008 CRD Oil Filter

I need to have an oil change this week on my '08 GC CRD. NAPA sells a filter in the gold line which I believe is a Wix filter. Has anyone ever used this filter. If not I have read on the forum some are getting filters from germanfilter.com. If you are, can you please provide me the part number you are ordering and how much you are paying for the filter. The last time I had oil change dealer charged me $30 for the filter. Also how often are you guys changing the fuel filter? Thanks for any help you can provide me.

Mann HU 821 X. About $104 for case of 10, or about $13 each at germanfilters.com

I don't know about the NAPA filter, we always use the OEM filters from germanfilters.com

They have a specific area for the filters on there under Jeep Diesels. We ordered the case of ten for just over $10 per filter for about $103. The fuel filter is the $32 one, not the $26 one. Don't buy oil on that site; it's too expensive.

We went to performanceoilstore.com and they had the Elf Solaris LSX 5w30 for just over $5 per liter! I just checked their site, but this oil has been changed over to the Total brand and it is over $7.30 per liter! Maybe it would be better to buy everything from germanfilters.com so you don't get hit with the shipping fees twice....

We will be changing our fuel filter at the next oil change ~25,000 miles, and we have been draining it every time.
Just my two cents.

for reference, another place to consider is http://www.performanceoilstore.com/p...sp?cat=10&pg=3 . the oil is on back order right now.

Advance Auto also stocks the appropriate filter. From what I have seen, the filters are all the Mann version just in a new box (at least the purolator one is).

I posted this on another forum:

Just checked my local napa today to see if they had the oil. They did for 4.99 a quart. I read the rear of the bottle and it say "meets performance of MB229.51". The part number on the bottle was VV966. Also priced the oil filter and it was 9.99 each.

According to this site, the oil was added by MB late last year.
http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html

if this all works out, the oil change on the crd can be as low as $60 + tax, not counting the rebate.

I emailed Jeep to confirm the oil;looks to be ok, but I don't need an oil change for a while.

I came out of a VW jetta TDI, and if these engines are anything similar...it shouldn't be a problem going 10k miles between oil changes in all but the most severe use. The higher quality oils....which the 229.51 oils are....do a very good job of protecting things and lasting a good while. Of course, the safest route is to do UOA to get a really good idea of how often you need to change based on your specific use of the vehicle. While it does cost a good amount for the oil, it helps to know that you can go longer on these quality oils. Even the standard synthetic oils now days should have no problems lasting 7500 miles in most vehicles under normal use. Since Jeep A & B shedule are basically double/half, I would feel comfortable with 10k oil changes in this car. All of this of course assuming stock everything (e.g. no chipping etc.). I will probably invest in some UOA myself just to get a firm idea of when I need to chnage.

It's not a cheap oil change though. Has anyone done any comparison on the filters? Do the Mann and the OEM filter look exactly the same? In the VW tdi the mann filter looked different then the OEM which IIRC was made by Mahle. A minus is that we have fairly small filters....I have always wondered why oems use such small filters in some applications.

For the record, my last UOA on Mobil 1 ESP lasted 9500 miles before the TBN dropped too low and the oxidation rose too high. The filters are identical.

Can you tell me what the brand of oil you are referring to called VV966?

Thanks,

as stated, the purolator one is the oem one, just in a different box. But, my advance auto wanted $25ish dollars.

the oil was Valvoline (pn VV966), guess I should have added that in the beginning

Valvoline SynPower MST 5W-30 229.51 (added 01 June 2006)
Valvoline SynPower 5W-40 229.51 (added November 2007)
Valvoline SynPower 20W-50 229.51 (added November 2007)

BTW, I never received a response from Jeep.

I'm picking up a WIX oil filter on Monday from O'Reilly Auto Parts for $9. Anybody use or recommend these filters?

This is the correct link for the latest oils that meet 229.51.

generally speaking, WIX makes an excellent filter.

My own preference is WIX (or napa gold) or Purolator Pureone.

There is a good chance however, that the Wix one may also be a Mann piece. Most seem to be.

Does Wix # 57062 sound like the right one?

Just answered my own question by checking out Wix site. That's the one (made in Poland) Paid $18 cad after tax at a part supplier. Mr Lube wanted $42.
You think maybe they've got a bit of a mark-up on that? I bought 1 piece how many cases of 10 do they buy?
Think maybe I'll order a case myself.

I use this also and it is made by WIX. No problem. Correct filter. My local store usually has to order it as he doesn't stock it. I always keep oil and filters on hand for the next change when I have completed a change in case something is out of stock when I need it and sit it on my CRD shelf with fuel filter, air filter, and oil ready to go.
