05 WK 5.7 Clicks but wont turnover

Searched the forum but decided to post my troubleshooting to make sure ordering a starter is the right conclusion. Jeep now has 140,000 miles on it.

It will only click accept sometimes when in 50amp boost mode from battery charger it will turn over as long as charger is connected. Once disconnected it will go right back to just clicking(click when pressing solenoid in and click when releasing solenoid). After a long drive will go right back to clicking.

Checked battery, cleaned terminals (could not do load test). Its at 12.7 volts standing volts and no drop from there. When vehicle is on its 13-14 volts its charging.
With lights and heater on and vehicle off it will drop to 12.6 at 10 second count and longer it will drop to 12.10 and stop dropping. Once lights are off it will climb back up to 12.6.
Tried a different fully charged battery-same issue.

Swapped solenoids, took cover off one solenoid for starter and manually pressed to bypass key and safety-same click. But with booster on battery-sometimes will turnover until booster disconnected.

Took wheel well cover off, checked yellow wire, cleaned with sand paper and added dielectric grease. No affect at all-even wiggled carefully while someone turned the key-only clicks.

Tried different key-no change. Ignatian switch was replaced under recall a few year back. No codes and no other dash lights.

Do you think its safe to assume its a starter or starter solenoid at this point? Or-is there some other step I can check? Dealer wants 420 bucks to replace starter at least and do you think they should replace the yellow wire anyway?

When I parked last a couple days ago it never had an issue or gave a warning it would fail.

Don't go to a dealer. Starters aren't a specialty item. Check the yellow wire. A good knock on the starter can help determine if its bad.

Had similar problem with previous Jeep. Replaced starter and beefed with wiring and added more earth wiring. Problem solved.
