So the pictures should be 31 years old or older, 1989 would be the newest vehicle in any picture in this thread. Pictures were a little harder to come by back then, since no one had a cell phone. I have some I can post, but not many.

I’ll start with a picture of me in my 1986 CJ-7 in 1987, after washing it. I had entered in a mud bog competition the previous weekend. This is what it looked like after I washed it. The spare tire is still removed in this shot. I removed the spare tire carrier, passenger & rear seats, and center console, trying to make it as light as possible. I was running 411 gears with a LSD in the back Dana-44, open differential in the front Dana 30. 31” mud radials on stock suspension, the only mod was the gear ratio change from the factory 331’s.

It wheeled pretty good for the time, with a 258 T-5 combo.

And one more picture of me with the trophies I won. I won the six cylinder mud drags, and came in second in the six cylinder Roundy-Round Course event, tying for the overall win. I had a good day.

My grandparents had a ranch in southern Wyoming which I spent a lot of my youth on. This was a photo from the 1960s of ranch land that they had in the mountains that they'd move the cattle to during the summer months (affectionally called "The Cow Camp"). They always had Jeeps to get in and out of the property due to the mud.

This was before I was born... my dad on his northern Idaho farm with my older brother. Dad had this CJ5 that was how he'd get in and out of the farm during the winter. He said that it was awesome in the snow.

I find it amazing how these old Jeeps were left stock with skinny tires and maybe a winch...They USED them as-is!

Back in the day??

I'm not sure this is "back in the day." Seems like it was last week but apparently 23 years have come and gone!

This was my first CJ7 that I bought while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina back in the summer of 97. I think I owned it for about 4 months before leaving the Army and knew that there was 0% chance it was going to make it back to Washington State

The Jeep came out of New Jersey and the hood was in EXCELLENT shape. The rest...not so much. But I was hooked on CJ's!

After my little mud bog adventure my new Jeep needed to be cleaned. I believe this picture is from the next day, a Sunday. I had duty so I had to be at work that day, all day and night, until relieved on Monday. Weekend duty days were pretty kicked back, with one scheduled flight for the duty section to support. I would usually have a project to work on for the day, we called them “Homers”. On this weekend duty-day my homer was cleaning my Jeep. The “Ready plane” can be seen in the background. It has been pre-flighted and is ready to launch should the SAR alarm go off.

I washed and cleaned the mud out of the interior as well as the exterior. When I was ready to do the final wash & rinse of the interior, I drove up the side of the wash rack, and then removed the drivers seat. I had previously removed the rest of the interior prior to competition. By putting it on an angle I was able to pull a drain plug and let the water drain out, it worked out pretty good.

There is no way I would abuse a new Jeep now, like I did back then. It is a 1986 Jeep and the picture is from 1987. It was a good time for sure, but not very smart. That Jeep took a beating and I broke it several times, but it never let me down on Monday when I had to drive it to work.

That was a good looking Jeep. About that same time my best friends father owned a Jeep dealership in SoCal.
When a co-worker told me he was going to buy a CJ, we went to my friend dad and he speced out a triple black
CJ7. It went straight to the 4x4 shop for a lift, a set of wheels, ground hawg tires and gears.
The Jeep and all at dealer cost.

Those Tires would throw giant clumps of clay mud. yep good times>:)

Nice, Love all of this! And remember Pismo when it had so much more area,
grew up about an hour away from there and went all the time.

Love that flatty with the horizontal bars around the bed
and rigs sporting white walls.

I cringed at the Chevy Step side grinding through on the rocker and step LOL
