My 1985 CJ-7 that gets driven daily. Im getting ready to drive my neighbor to the Ford dealership in Elizabeth City to pick up his Grand Cherokee. Well see how many miles I rack up, and compare it to Mapquest for accuracy.

My odometer reads 91,700 after my little trip, according to my odometer I travelled 42 miles. Mapquest says I travelled 23.1 miles to E City, and 25.7 miles to get home for a total of 48.8 miles. That is an error of about 13%. My Jeep has 31 tires and an automatic transmission. Im pretty sure my Jeep still has 2.72 gears.

That sounds about right. I used a GPS Mileage App and recorded my odometer at the same time for several longer trips and it came out to a difference of 13.6% every time. I use that to track my actual mileage and MPG. I have BFG AT 33s and 3.31.

This pic has to be four years old. I just had finished installing my Cloyes Original Race True Roller Timing Set 9-3127 in "Mr. Jeeps" 258. The grill was leaning against garage wall behind me. It's much easier to perform the task with the grill and radiator detached. The OEM style chain and gears were really sloppy.

This was one of the better performance upgrade repairs I had ever done.

I reluctantly spent nearly $140 for the set alone. MPGs went up some as well as power.

I regularly achieve 18 MPG sometimes a little more. With that, my 21 gallon tank, and Jerry can I can do some more traveling before talking with the pump nozzle again.

I wish I had made this part of my rebuild back in 1995.

Every now and again (now) I'll see a whisp of oil smoke from the valve seals during crank up. Twenty years of daily driving and that's the only minor issue he has, he'll last a lot longer before it's rebuild time again!

Oil pressure remains at about 50 PSI (high volume pump installed during rebuild) Vacuum at idle is still 21 hg, and 18 MPG is the norm with my everyday Grandma driving techniques while holding back the extreme power of my 258 carbureted with a Holley 390 4 barrel.

He's a '77 with many user friendly upgrades to be like a '79.

He's #6 of the 6 CJ5s I have owned (all I have ever owned since I've been on the road starting in 1981!). He's been the best one so far (my Willys is right in line behind him--I got both back in '91).

WOW! Notice in my second pic, this is one of those real Jeeps in which the windshield will fold down rather quickly, we drive him like that quite a bit. Those are yard sale computer speakers cut down and hanging on the roll bar.

Observe that the wench is no longer a part of the pictures, I divorced her back in '93.

Other than doing maintenance at any level on either of my Jeeps, I feel like I have gotten them both fixed up exactly like I want them, no more accessorizing, It's time to fully enjoy them!

My 1979 CJ7 Renegade daily driver

Once the body is gone through and painted it’s going to get a big block under the hood and whole new drive train. I plan on a 454 pushing 400-500hp mated to a built th350. Not sure about transfer case yet. Will put in some Tom Woods drive shafts and not sure on axles to handle the hp. Currently it has the original 304 mated to the original factory t18a as 1979 was only year you could get a v8 with a t18a from the factory, other years it was a 258 with the t18a. I have a Dana 20 transfer case and stock axles front and rear. 4 inch suspension lift, 35 inch bf Goodrich tires and a 4 bbl Holley. I get about 7 miles to a gallon.

2000 WJ is my DD. Has 245,000 miles, installed 4.5” Rusty’s long arm kit with 285 BFGs. Just replaced the bearings in the pinion, carrier, and axles before these pics taken at the beach this past week. I get about 12 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the highway. Not so strong running with the I-6 engine. 1994 YJ has 225,000 miles and used to be my DD through 150,000 miles. Has a 2.5” RC lift with 30” BFGs. The 2.5L is solid and runs great! I’m the only owner for both.

Just picked up the other day. Traded my '05 WK for this one. Happy not to have the oil/fuel suck any longer! Only mod so far has been Yakima crossbars.
