Switching Grills on a 1984 J10

A few years ago I was watching a car show. They were showing how you could pull the newer J10 grill and replace it with the old style Gladiator grill. Basic bolt up - might need to get some head light buckets or rings? I'm looking online at a 1985 Jeep J10. Anyone had their grill off and if so could you see if the old grill would bolt right up??? Or maybe have you done it???

Thanks

The basic sheet metal is there (even round bucket holes for the rectangular lights) but there are also some additional small brackets and tabs, it is not quite a straight swap but almost is. To do it properly I would anticipate a small amount of metalwork and paint.

When I had my 1981 apart I thought about trying to find the Gladiator shield etc. but i was already dead with buying a tailgate.

Here it is stripped and painted and a stock photo.

Of course the 1985 does not have the brow, so will not looking exactly like a Gladiator but close enough that few will tell.

Thanks & thanks for the photos - seems doable but finding the parts would be the trick. I did some looking on the web here in the USA - couldn't find much. I sure like the original look. LBM

Hard to find on eBay since the new jeep Gladiator came out, swamps everything else. i found looking for "used" parts helped.

Only one on ebay, with the pie cans for $200 which is not a bad price. Still need more parts to finish it but it would get you part way there.

Yes - then another one popped up. I'm still too far out from buying the/a Gladiator/J10...... to buy parts. Might have to think about just buying it to hang on the wall.

Thanks - you did a nice job on your rigs - I like the flat bed.
